How do I pay for the Insight Package?
By Bank transfer.
When do I pay for the Insight Package?
When your referral is accepted, you will receive an email with proposed dates and times for the initial phone consultation. After a date and time is agreed, payment must be made in full prior to the agreed date of the initial phone consultation.
Why was my referral not accepted for the Insight Package?
The most common reasons are my caseload is full or your child’s needs may be better dealt with via another service. Where possible, a reason will be provided by email.
What are the sessions?
The sessions are one-to-one meetings between myself and your child/young person. We discuss thoughts and feelings, complete activities designed to address specific needs (e.g., social skills, emotional regulation), and work on developing strategies to handle various situations. Each session is personalised to ensure the child feels supported and engaged.
How do I book a session or session package?
Email a completed referral form or submit a general query on the website.
How long does each session last?
Sessions are scheduled for 30 minutes each. The minimum guaranteed time is 28 minutes, allowing for necessary administrative tasks such as note-taking, correspondence with parents/carers, and smooth transitions between sessions. Sessions may extend to the full 30 minutes depending on the activity.
Can I have more than one session per week?
Yes, you can schedule more than one session per week, subject to availability.
How long do I need to have sessions for?
The duration of sessions is flexible and determined by the needs of the child/young person and the discretion of the parent/carer. There is no minimum or maximum duration for ongoing sessions.
Do you offer different sessions?
Yes, sessions can be tailored to your needs. Please get in contact to discuss customised options.
My child/young person hasn’t started talking about their worries. When does the therapy start?
Start the Puzzle offers guidance and mentorship, not therapy. While I can support and encourage your young person, I cannot force them to discuss anything they are not ready to share. The supportive aspect of the sessions comes through one-to-one, child-focused, low-demand interactions. Building trust and comfort may take varying amounts of time for different individuals.
When do I pay for the sessions?
Once you decide on a package, please send in the referral form or an email. I will then contact you via email to arrange the times and dates for the sessions. Full payment is due once these details are agreed upon.
Can I get my sessions funded?
Schools may be able to fund sessions through their SEN budget or an individual's EHCP plan.
Is my child safe in the sessions?
Absolutely. I hold an enhanced DBS check and have received safeguarding training. Additionally, parents are required to wait just outside the office during sessions.
What happens if the child or young person is late to the session?
Unfortunately, due to tight time constraints, the 30-minute session cannot be extended if the child or young person arrives late. It is important to arrive on time to make the most of each session.
Can I reschedule my sessions?
Rescheduling is possible but incurs a £12 admin fee. Please note that a new date or time may not be immediately available due to tight scheduling.
Can I cancel my sessions?
You can cancel your sessions, but please note that refunds will not be issued.
What are your qualifications/experience?
I bring a wealth of experience, backed by over 10 years as a school teacher. As an outreach worker, I deliver training, run parent workshops, and guide schools to improve their capacity to support children with additional needs. I've also spent extensive hours observing children, understanding their individual requirements, and creating tailored support plans to address those needs effectively.
Why is this service needed?
There is a growing demand for support for families and schools, particularly during the often lengthy waiting period for an official diagnosis. Many parents are seeking guidance and strategies to support their child's needs in the interim.
Do you diagnose?
I can not diagnose. An Autism diagnosis should ideally be made by a multi-disciplinary team with appropriate skills and training. Team members commonly include: Paediatrician, Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist and/or Educational Psychologist.
How can I get a diagnosis?
First talk to your GP or school SENCO. The pathway for an autism diagnosis may include assessment from a community paediatrician, Speech and Language Therapist or Educational Psychologist. This process is currently taking over 60 weeks.
